As for why they are in a period of decline, a new admin, Quote, stepped in around 9 months ago and, recently, made some decisions which infuriated the userbase.
There are also people who persistently post bait on their two biggest boards (mostly lewd media) to gain attention from moralists. All of the bait is """ironic""", of course.
It's well known you cannot make a thread there without it being flooded by more attention-grabbing threads. Users are mostly Gen Z which is why discussions are always succinct.
